Rocking NAVAJO!

A well-known Navajo rug style often associated with the western reservation, the Storm Pattern appears to have originated at the Crystal Trading Post. The trader there, J. B. Moore, published several catalogs and sales leaflets at the beginning of the twentieth century. His “Plate IX”, obviously a Storm Pattern but not labeled as such, was first printed between 1903 and 1911.

The Storm Pattern is not built around a central diamond, but is a very recognizable geometric composition with a strong, often rectangular central element connected by diagonal stepped lines to elements in each of the four corners. This design is said to be highly symbolic and associated with the all-important rainstorms in the growing season. Individual components include representations of the Navajos’ four sacred mountains, lightning bolts, snowflakes and waterbugs. Storm Pattern rugs are woven in an unlimited variety of colors.

For many Navajo women, weaving is not only a source of livelihood, it is a way to participate in traditional Navajo culture and community.  The art of weaving is deeply felt expression of beauty, harmony, and balance: concepts that lie at the center of Navajo art and life.

The Brogue Shoe

The Brogue is a style of low-heeled shoe or boot traditionally characterized by multiple-piece, sturdy leather uppers with decorative perforations (or "brogueing") and serration along the pieces' visible edges. Modern brogues trace their roots to a rudimentary shoe originating in Scotland and Ireland that was constructed using untanned hide with perforations that allowed water to drain from the shoes when the wearer crossed wet terrain such as a bog. Brogues were traditionally considered to be outdoor or country footwear not otherwise appropriate for casual or business occasions, but brogues are now considered appropriate in most contexts. Brogues are most commonly found in one of four toe cap styles (full or "wingtip", semi-, quarter and longwing) and four closure styles (oxford, derby,ghillie, and monk). Today, in addition to their typical form of sturdy leather shoes or boots, brogues may also take the form of business dress shoes, sneakers, high-heeled women's shoes, or any other shoe form that utilizes or evokes the multi-piece construction and perforated, serrated piece edges characteristic of brogue.

2012 Spring Breeze!

Now that the days are growing longer, it's the season for bright and sunny looks: think ladylike silhouettes made modern by flirty fits, Technicolor hues, and unexpected pattern play. I’m sure you’re all excited and at the same time giddy for this year’s spring fashion trends, from the most fashionable shoes, clothes, bags and make-up that dedicated for this season up to the loveliest and of course affordable fashion jewelry and accessories there is. 

Well, for the record, 2012 Spring Fashion Trend is still dominated by the Pantone colors. Dark Pink, Blue, Purple, Aqua Blue or as we speak the Pantone language, Tangerine Tango, Sodalite Blue, Cabaret and Cockatoo.

Let’s start with clothes, for this year, soft, flowing fabrics in the lovely shades of pastels will be seen in different magazines, runways etc. Black and white will always defy time and seasons so don’t be surprised to see this color’s, more or less in stripe or combined in other colors. 

Skirts are the “In” thing and a must have whatever size you are, layered, tulips, bubble and all with whimsical patterns, flowers, plaid or stripe. Also if you love croquet better take it out of your closet and begin wearing them as its making a comeback. 

On the other hand, jeans will be in vibrant colors of red, orange, blue, purple and other pastels, high waste, skinny jeans and straight cuts are seen in the runways, better have one before you became a fashion fallout

As for the accessories, belt bags are a nice idea in replace of a purse, Small Square and flat are better than those bulky ones. Belts on the other hand, are thinner or skinny belts as they say, something that would enhance your jeans or your skirt

If you are looking for shoes, better pick something you will feel comfortable walking since its spring it’s nice to walk in the parks or wherever. Also choose something feminine like wedge, ballet flats, high heels, and ankle boots as these types are making the spring trend complete.

How to apply smokey eyes

10 Minutes Tutorial

1. Prep the lid. The key to keeping eyeshadow from melting into your eyelid crease as the day goes on is to kept eyelids oil-free. To do this start with an eyeshadow base (also called "primer"). Simply swipe the primer across the eye and let it dry before you continue to the next step

2. Apply eyeliner. If you're going for a typical black, brown or gray smoky eye, apply liner in one of those colors above the upper lash line, drawing line thicker in the middle of eye. If you're opting for a jewel-toned eye (violet makes a gorgeous smokey eye), line eyes with a purple, blue or deep green liner

3. Adding the shadow With a small eye shadow brush or a q-tip, soften the edges of the eye pencil line.Apply a dark shadow using a sponge-tip applicator, smudge brush or a q-tip directly over the penciled area and smudge. (you can use your finger tip.)The shadow helps to set and soften the look

4. Blend in color on bottom lashes For color on the bottom (a key smokey eye look) you'll want to use a eyeliner pencil because they're easiest to smudge. Once the line is drawn, run your finger over it to smudge the line. You can also apply a bit of shadow to get full smudge effect

5. Blend in darker color, but keep dark color below the crease. Now that you have the base and eyeliner on, it's time to get the smokey effect. You need a darker eyeshadow shade. Using an eyeshadow brush blend in color starting at your lash line, blending up. Make sure to blend color into the lash line so the eye liner disappears

6. Apply light base color Again, the key to a smokey eye is pairing a lighter base with the darker hue. I prefer a nice cream shade for my base. Sweep a light, shimmery shadow over the lids to your browbone
